What a Japanese head spa actually is
It is not a shampoo and it is not a haircut. A head spa is a slow scalp treatment, and it is one of the quietest hours on a spa menu.
The idea
The head spa began in Japanese hair salons as a way to care for the scalp the way a facial cares for the face. The scalp is cleansed patiently, then massaged along the head, temples, neck and shoulders, with warm water and steam to keep things soft.
What happens
- You recline and talk through your scalp and hair.
- A deep cleanse with warm water and steam.
- A slow massage of the scalp, temples, neck and shoulders.
- A quiet finish before you sit up.
Who it suits
People who hold tension in the head and neck, anyone who prefers a lighter touch than a full body massage, and gift givers who want something different. It may leave the scalp feeling clean and refreshed, and many guests feel relaxed afterward. Tell the therapist about any scalp sensitivity when you book. See the Japanese Head Spa page for prices.
Massage at Zentelle Spa is for comfort and relaxation. It is not medical advice and is not a substitute for care from your doctor. Please check with your doctor first if you have a medical condition, and tell your therapist about it before the session.
