Deep tissue or Swedish: which massage suits you?

The two names come up on every massage menu. They describe how a session feels, and you can mix them.

Swedish

Swedish massage uses long, flowing strokes with light to medium pressure. It is the classic relaxation massage, and a good place to begin if you are new.

Deep tissue

Deep tissue work uses slower strokes and firmer pressure on areas that feel tight, such as the shoulders, upper back or hips. Firm does not mean painful. Pressure that makes you hold your breath is too much.

You do not have to pick one

Our Signature Full Body Massage blends both. Tell the therapist where you want firmer work and where you want a lighter touch, and they will adjust through the hour.

  • Choose lighter work if you are new, tired or sensitive.
  • Choose firmer work for stubborn tight spots, and speak up if it is too much.

Massage at Zentelle Spa is for comfort and relaxation. It is not medical advice and is not a substitute for care from your doctor. Please check with your doctor first if you have a medical condition, and tell your therapist about it before the session.
